The printer’s copy for TB was a combination of the September to April TM text and the MS for the rest. In other words, for Chapters I– XXVIII the copy for TB was TM and Hardy made revisions to this in the TB proofs; for Chapters XXIX–XL the TB text derives not from TM but directly from the now lost MS and contains substantive readings qualitatively superior to TM. The second edition was published by Henry King in one volume in 1877.
